What factors influence CF disease severity?1 of 5 << Back to The correlation between CFTR mutations and disease severity
Symptoms of CF are highly varied among individual patients, even between siblings who carry identical CFTR alleles. This variation is thought to be influenced by non-genetic factors (e.g. the environment) and by genes that can act on the CFTR gene (i.e. modifier genes).1-6
The severity of CF disease is related to three main factors:
- CFTR genotype
- Modifier genes
- Environmental factors
